Barcelona Interntional Boat Show Ends Positively

The Barcelona International Boat Show earlier this month closed its biggest event to date with a very positive balance and record figures.

The 2007 Boat Show recorded more exhibitors, more space, more boats and more visitors than ever. Its last day coincided with the start of the first Barcelona World Race, a 25,000-mile non-stop round the world event.

The number of direct exhibitors was 11% higher than the previous year, according to organisers. 533 were Spanish and 153 were from abroad. 41 countries were reportedly represented by the 2,200 direct and indirect exhibitors, and an estimated 180,000 visitors showed great interest in buying exhibited products.

2,100 boats of all types and models were showcased in Gran Via and Port Vell, 220 of which were exhibited in the Port Vell On-Water Show which, for the first time, included super yachts, an emerging boating sector.

The show featured sail and motor boats of all sizes, canoes and kayaks, sails, inflatables, electronics, trailers and jet skis, windsurfing, fishing, sports marinas, charters and engines.

The total net space amounted to 115,000 square metres, 75,000 of which corresponded to the 5 pavilions and outdoor areas of the Gran Via exhibition centre, and 40,000 to the Port Vell Espanya Barcelona Docks.

The Gran Via exhibition centre had five major activity areas: Sea, Fishing, Traditional Marina, Fun Beach and Innovation, which provided the setting for numerous activities, such as sailing for beginners, announcement of races, awards ceremonies and technical sessions.
