The British Virgin Islands' Inland Revenue Department is to introduce a new platform from early next year to automate the administration of all taxes and licenses.
The Standard Integrated Government Tax Administration System – SIGTAS 3.0 – is to be introduced from February 2023, the Government said.
The tax agency said the system will enable taxpayers to submit a registration form online, print a registration certificate, query accounts online, check unfiled tax periods, follow the status of any pending request, and communicate easily with the tax administration through an embedded messaging facility.
The IRD said it will be focusing its efforts in the coming weeks on re-registering businesses and registering the details of all individual taxpayers of employable age.
"We need all taxpayers on board," said Revenue Commissioner Karen Smith-Aaron. "It is very important that we work together to get the data entered into the system which will make the entire process run more smoothly. Once we get all taxpayers registered, persons will be able to begin paying online when the new tax receivable system goes live in February 2023."
