Australia Appoints Second Tax Commissioner

by Mary Swire, Tax-News.com, Hong Kong

The Australian Government has announced the appointment of a full-time Second Tax Commissioner for a seven-year period.

Andrew Mills is currently a director at the specialist tax advisory firm Greenwoods and Freehills. He was previously president of The Tax Institute.

The Australian Taxation Office is the Government's principal revenue collection agency. It manages and shapes the country's tax, excise and superannuation systems, and is responsible for the administration of a wide range of taxation and superannuation legislation.

Mills will replace Bruce Quigley, who retired from the Second Commissioner position at the start of the month.
