Cost Of Renouncing US Citizenship Increases Fourfold

That is America. The system that not only encourages but forces ALL to do wrong (so to fall in the rank of the system which itself is flawed) and shockingly also then let the real culprits get away with it too.

Thailand Mulls New Inheritance, Property Taxes

For some weird reason, for instance inheretance tax flight to other jurisdictions, Cyprus comes to mind.. I doubt the MOF will get a dime from "the wealthiest individuals". So "80 percent of people interviewed agreed with a negative income tax" did they now... Would these all be handed a check from the government, then? Funded by the fleeing inheritance tax wealthiest individuals, perhaps?

US Corporate Capex Not Affected By Tax Incentive Renewal

Please provide a link to the full study. Mysteriously difficult to find.
By John Duarte on Monday, August 18, 2014

US Corporate Capex Not Affected By Tax Incentive Renewal

This study is not a good analysis of the effects of the 179 deduction nor of bonus depreciation.

The 179 deduction is absolutely irrelevant to a company with billions in revenue as it fades out as a companys’ capital invstment reach $2M. Large companies have many tax strategies -some not subject to US policy, and often, spare capacity.

For bonus depreciation and its’ impact on capital investment and job growth we need an analysis of the companies that actually created jobs over the past seven years and how they considered the impacts of investment incentives. Most of the job creators are smaller companies with less access to capital markets. I would also guess that they are in market niches that big guys haven’t settled into.

In summary, if you want to study public policy and job creation please look to those who are affected by thepolicy and are creating jobs.

Improvements Proposed For US Tax Refund Theft Prevention

How about a "tax filing" number that is different from the DD#? When I was an Army Reservist with a totally different number than SAS#, but I understand that this has now changed. This number - preferable alpha-numeric, wouldnot be a major burden to taxpayers, who would only use it in 1040 and similar forms, the trucated SS# would still be used in W-2s, 1099s, withholdings and FICA tax forms used by empolyers, etc.?

More Americans Quit US Before FATCA Begins

Re: More Americans Quit Before FATCA begins. FATCA was legislated in 2010. So FATCA has already impacted Americans living abroad for a few years. One impact is the new 8938 form reporting each "foreign"account (all your accounts if you live abroad) and which line of the the 1040 the income shows up. Another impact is the taxing of foreign pension funds. My pension gets taxed with the gain each year taxed as ordinary income at my marginal U.S. tax rate. The tax treaty that is supposed to "prevent double taxation", in the words of the Treasury Department, does no such thing. I get double taxed. Ok you U.S. resident, how about the U.S. change the rules and say that the gains in your 401K gets taxed as ordinary gains every year at your marginal tax rate?

Double taxation without representation. The new Obamacare 3.8% investment tax was specially designed to get around tax treaties and land right on top of all the taxes in the country in which you live.

Because of FATCA compliance costs have nearly doubled. The Wall Street Journal estimates that compliance cost/return filing cost is from 3 to 20 times more expensive than in the home country.

Then there are major punitive for not filing things right and FATCA has ratcheted this up.

To those Americans living abroad the treatment of them by the U.S. government may seem anti-American.

Ukraine Adopts Emergency Budget Measures

Temporary taxes have a habit of becoming permanent, to increase the tax to such a degree is madness. Oil and gas companies will just not invest, they could not, they will not even cover their costs. This will also deter other companies from investing in Ukraine, just when investment is needed. What will be next? The repercussions of these tax hikes will take a generation to ease, why invest in Ukraine when the government could put you out of business investors will just go elsewhere.

FATCA: More US Expats Consider Handing In Passports

Sign this petition to try to make your voice heard -- you may be targeted by US tax law, and you may not even be able to vote in the US! Taxation, without representation...

Please stop penalizing working American Persons living and paying
taxes abroad via the onerous regulations of FATCA.

Many American working men and women abroad are being penalized by being taxed by the United States despite having no income in the US. Retirement savings (e.g. Canadian RRSPs) and other basic income are being taxed despite often being already taxed in their home countries. This "citizenship based taxation" is considered across the world to be a human rights violation - such that the only other country in the world that practices it,
Eritrea, was condemned for this practice by the US state department. Even non-citizens who may have been born in the US are subject to this law. Designed to target wealthy tax cheats, this law ensnares 17 million Americans abroad, and millions more non US citizens who were unfortunate enough to be born in the US, with no voice or vote to challenge it.

FATCA: More US Expats Consider Handing In Passports

No other nation treats its expats living abroad as poorly as the United States Government. In fact, for US expats living in any other first or second world country, the U.S. government is the biggest threat they face. The US must stop trying to force a square peg in a round hold - Residence Based Taxation (RBT) is the world standard and the US must move to RBT and stop its enforcement of Citizenship Based Taxation (CBT).

FATCA: More US Expats Consider Handing In Passports

US citizenship is no longer a viable option for people living abroad. To protect themselves and their families from the USA, they will need to renounce. I expect the expatriation rate to peak out at just under 100% in the near future, as more so called "US persons" are targeted by the USA or simply become aware of the existential risks involved in holding a US passport outside of the USA.

Ireland Mulls Changes To Taxation Of HGV Vehicles

This change is long overdue as the basis on which the HGV road tax is calculated ie. U.L.W. is out of date, unfair, anti productive(as it taxes payload) and cannot be factored in to any modern road charging system, be it time based or distance based. Leaving it as it is any longer will mean that many more will join the already estimated 4,000 trucks that have opted to "re-flag" to other less oppressive jurisdictions.

UK Mansion Tax Workable, But Not 'Fair:' UK200Group

Any charge against property at 3.5% or below at today's selling prices, only recoups to the State the value it creates.

So, this isn't even technically a "tax". It is a user fee, which is very different morally and economically than a tax on private property i.e income and capital.

So, a Mansion Tax is fairer and economically efficient.

FATCA Causes First Russian Bank To Cut US Clients

What's really peculiar about Russian banks' dropping US clients is that it will provide zero protection against FATCA's 30% withholding sanction, while submitting them in principle to US administrative control and to the risk of data-mining by the NSA and other intelligence agencies. (FATCA information is *not* confidential tax information under US law, and will be passed to other agencies as an invaluable "mapping" tool on the activities of non-US institutions.) Especially at a time when Russian banks and companies, at government urging, are striving to "de-dollarize" operations as much as possible, it makes no sense for Russia to allow FATCA to be enforced against Russian banks.
