Small shareholders in ailing Russian oil firm, Yukos have filed a class action lawsuit in the United States against its auditor, accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers.
According to the UK's Observer the shareholders, led by investment fund Roxwell Holdings have alleged that PwC wrongly certified accounts, leaving the oil firm open to the ongoing tax evasion investigation that has threatened to bankrupt it.
Mikhail Khordorkovsky, who owns the controlling stake in the company is also being sued by the group of shareholders, who allege that he and other senior executives falsified the company's financial position in an attempt to "deceive the investing public" last year.
According to reports at the weekend, Yukos has sent the government a new proposal detailing a two year payment plan for its tax liabilities. However, the Russian authorities have not yet issued a response.
