More opportunities will soon be created for Grenada’s young people, as Officials of the World Bank have confirmed that the Organization will provide both technical and financial support to the Government’s programme of youth training and employment.
This confirmation was given at a meeting between Grenadian Prime Minister, Dr Keith Mitchell and officials of the World Bank, held at the Office of the Prime Minister on Friday.
The Bank officials advised the Prime Minister that the Bank will be providing financing and technical support for the implementation of training in employable skills and life skills, as well as the establishment and operation of the relevant institutional support mechanisms, including the recently established Grenada Council for Technical and Vocational Education, and the planned National Training Agency.
The Bank officials also advised the Prime Minister that on the basis of the current schedule, implementation of project activities can begin in July 2008.
These activities are in addition to those which are already planned under the first phase of the Grenada Training and Employment Programme (GTEP).
The Prime Minister reaffirmed his commitment to the overall programme of youth training and employment, within the context of the development of the country’s human resources, and positioning the general population to take advantage of emerging opportunities at home and abroad.
He expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far, and noted that the Government would continue to work to empower young people, and to create avenues for them to improve themselves.
