Winton Capital Management, the London-based alternative fund manager, ended January 2003 with 12-month gains of 39.7% in its flagship programme, the Winton Futures Fund. Since its foundation in 1997, Winton says it has yielded consistently positive returns in every year of operation, delivering average annual returns of over 20%.
Winton's expanding statistical research team will be joined this month by its newest recruit, Boris Afanasiev. Previously, Boris held the position of European Market Intelligence Manager for Mars UK Ltd. Masterfoods. Boris's in-depth statistical experience was gained through postgraduate studies in Russia and the UK, and work on actuarial and market research analysis.
Winton was recently included in the new Standard & Poors Managed Futures Index, the first transparent and investable managed futures benchmark, comprised of a total of 14 managers.
Winton says it attributes the continuing success of its investment programme to the company's enduring commitment to a research agenda, aimed at capturing the returns from the trending behaviour of the world's financial markets through rigorous statistical analysis.
