Walkers, the global offshore law firm, is expanding its operations in the British Virgin Islands in response to significant growth in the number of sophisticated, high-value corporate transactions and complex international litigation being carried out in the jurisdiction, the company has announced.
With the firm's workload growing, Walkers has taken new office space and continues to hire more staff to service clients' needs.
"This is an exciting time for the BVI financial community. The jurisdiction is seeing a rise in major institutional work and cases with global impact," explained Heidi de Vries, Managing Partner of Walkers' BVI office.
"As the level and complexity of our work in BVI continues to increase, we are committed to adding resources to ensure our clients continue to receive outstanding service," she added.
The most recent addition to Walkers' BVI office is Lisa Penn-Lettsome, who has joined the firm as an associate lawyer, and who has a long history in the BVI government and financial sectors. To the corporate department, Walkers' BVI office has also added Richard May, who has extensive experience in general corporate finance, public and private mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and investment funds; and Simon Hudd who has advised on mergers and acquisitions, general corporate issues, and corporate finance matters with a particular focus on cross-border transactions.
Walkers is also expecting to add five more attorneys before the end of the year in response to a greater demand for the firm's investment funds, structured finance, and insolvency litigation skills in BVI matters.
"Walkers is proud of our leading role in the global financial services market, and specifically in the BVI. Our addition of five new attorneys by the end of the year reflects the popularity of BVI as a jurisdiction for international deals," stated Christopher Lloyd, senior partner of Walkers' BVI office.
"Having industry experts such as Lisa, Richard, and Simon on our team is a testament to the high quality of work for which the firm is known, and ensures that we will continue to deliver on that degree of knowledge and experience for our clients in the BVI and around the world," he added.
