It has been announced that a key WIPO event is being held in Wales this month.

The Sixth Annual WIPO Forum on Intellectual Property for small and medium-sized enterprises, Intellectual Property Offices and other relevant institutions in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries is being organised by the World Intellectual Property Organization, in collaboration with the Welsh Government Assembly, and will take place at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

According to WIPO:

"The Forum is a key event for IP Offices and relevant institutions to discuss and share experiences on the effective use of the IP system by innovators, creators, entrepreneurs and SMEs. The aim of the Forum is to provide an open and interactive platform to raise questions and to share experiences and views on matters concerning intellectual property for industry and business."

The Organization went on to reveal that among the issues on the agenda at the Forum are:

  • IP related key issues relevant to entrepreneurship and competitiveness of SMEs;
  • Shared experiences with regard to outreach activities, special programs, services and products, and best practices on IP for innovators, creators, entrepreneurs and SMEs; and
  • An exploration of the possibilities of cooperation and partnership in the outreach and marketing activities, for greater and more effective use of the IP system for wealth creation.

According to reports, delegates attending the Forum will be invited to a reception hosted by First Minister, Rhodri Morgan. The opening speech at the event will be delivered by the UK's Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Intellectual Property & Quality, Baroness Morgan of Drefelin.
