Following the European Commission's recent decision that subsidies received by low cost airline Ryanair from the regional Belgian authorities represented illegal state aid, Virgin Express has announced that is considering taking legal action.
According to reports in the European media, Virgin Express, which operates from Brussels National Airport among other locations, has alleged that it was "damaged by this illegal activity".
The airline has announced that following the publication of a full report on the matter by the EC, it will "decide whether we are going to seek compensation for the damages incurred during the period that the illegal subsidies were offered to Ryanair".
It concluded by observing that:
"We certainly do not accept that ignorance of the rules is a convincing defence."
