Vietnam and Portugal are to increase bilateral co-operation in several key areas, according to Vietnam's Deputy Prime Minister, Pham Gia Khiem.
Khiem's announcement follows a visit by the Portuguese Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Joao Gomes Cravinho on April 8, when it was announced that Vietnam is keen to start receiving direct investments from Portugal.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the meeting resulted in an agreement which will see increased economic co-operation increased in several key areas, including information technology, tourism and the marine industry.
Further to this, Khiem revealed that both parties are also looking to conclude outstanding negotiations relating to the avoidance of double taxation and investment promotion. Proposals for a tripartite agreement between Vietnam, Portugal and Portuguese African countries were also discussed.
