Vietnam Increases Import Tariff For Dairy Products

Dairy farmers in Vietnam are set to benefit from an increase to the import tariffs on various milk products, the country's Ministry of Finance (MoF) has revealed.

According to the MoF, the decision to raise the import tariffs on certain types of milk has been made to help the country's local milk producers - many of whom are struggling to remain competitive.

Under the new regime:

  • Fresh milk will have its import tariff raised from 7 to 20%;
  • A 10% increase on tariffs will be applied to uncondensed and sweet-free milk and cream, taking them from 5 to 15%; and
  • Import tariffs for sweet-free raw materials will rise from 3 to 10%.

Milk powder and finished canned milk will not see their import tariffs adjusted, however.
