Releasing figures for September, Van Hedge Fund Advisors International revealed that the Van Global Hedge Fund Index rose 0.8% net last month.
According to Van Hedge the results, which represented the average of more than 800 hedge funds which reported to the firm, were biased slightly in favour of hedge funds domiciled outside of the United States.
"Although all of the major US stock market benchmarks were down last month, hedge funds continued to generate gains," chairman of Van Hedge, George Van, observed of the results, continuing:
"September's positive return, while modest, marks the seventh straight winning month for the Van Global Hedge Fund Index. About seven out of ten funds have reported a profit for September, with average gains in thirteen out of fourteen hedge fund strategies we track."
The strategies which performed best last month were Emerging Markets, Distressed Securities, and Macro, which returned 4.0%, 2.6%, and 2.3% respectively. Aggressive Growth funds, on the other hand, averaged a -1.0% loss.
