Van Hedge Fund Advisors International last week announced that the firm's Van Global Hedge Fund Index gained 1.1% in November, according to preliminary figures. This brings its year-to-date returns to 15.7%.

According to Van, hedge fund performance in November kept pace with the US equity market, with the Global Hedge Fund Index outperforming the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average, which returned 0.9% and 0.1% for the month respectively.

Speaking with regard to the results, George Van, chairman of the advisory firm observed that:

"This year is proving to be one of the most consistently positive years ever for the Van Global Hedge Fund Index." He continued:

"So far, the Index has had only one losing month in 2003, when it fell -0.1% net in February. Hedge fund managers continued to reward investors in November, with Distressed Securities and Value strategy funds again showing some of the best results."
