The 2009 budget was top of the agenda when the Uzbek Senate met at a plenary session December 4 in Tashkent.
The senators began with discussions about the way forward for the state budget. They envisaged further strengthening of macroeconomic stability and the income base of the budget, as well as creation of favourable conditions for the development of businesses.
It was agreed that in order to support and stimulate the development of small businesses producing industrial goods, the basic single tax payment for this sector will be reduced from 8% to 7%. Reduction of the fixed tax on the income of legal entities and individuals dealing with private entrepreneurship is also planned.
Also agreed by the Senate were changes to the law regarding non-governmental organisations (NGOs). The adoption of the law will help to boost the activity of NGOs and ensure transparency in allocation of budget funds to NGOs.
