18 November 2008

The Ukrainian parliament has recently ratified a double tax treaty with the Middle Eastern state of Jordan, which will enter into force upon completion of the exchange of instruments of ratification.

Providing the exchange is successful between the two countries the convention will be effective on January 1, 2009.

The withholding tax rates under the treaty are as follows:

  • Dividends: maximum treaty rate is 15%. The reduced rate of 10% applies if the beneficial owner is a company (other than a partnership) which holds directly at least 25% of the capital of the company paying the dividends.
  • Interest and royalties: 10%. Interest income of governmental institutions is exempt from source-country withholding tax.
