A meeting is due to take place in Washington next week between a delegation of Irish government officials and representatives of bluechip US technology companies.
The forum was arranged by the recently appointed Irish e-commerce envoy in Washington, Ms Deirdre Fannin, and will apparently be the Bush Administration's first official hosting of a foreign delegation.
A statement issued by the forum organisers said that the two-day meeting will help to 'develop policies and evolve strategies to maintain Ireland's position as the preferred location for US high-tech investment in Europe.'
Issues to be discussed will include a debate on the legislative and regulatory environments in Ireland. The government is keen to continue and build on its existing regulatory environment to enhance and develop the country's e-commerce and technology company investment. Internet security will recieve particular consideration.
In an earlier joint press release the Irish and US government stated: 'The Governments of the United States and Ireland recognize the importance of global cooperation in the promotion of electronic commerce and the need to reach coherent and effective global solutions in the construction of a seamless environment for electronic commerce.'
