Following the release of an Associated Press poll in which four out of five of those questioned said that they were doubtful that current and future tax cuts enacted by the Bush administration would benefit them, US Vice President, Dick Cheney, has defended the tax cut package, and suggested that the US economy is now rebounding.
Speaking at a fundraiser for Republican Senator Wayne Allard on Wednesday, the Vice President stated that:
'It's still early, but there's no doubt the American economy is on the way back.' He explained that: 'Consumer confidence now is rebounding, industrial production is rising. Economic growth estimates have been revised upwards from previous ones in the last several months. These are all clear signs of a recovery.'
Although, according to the AP poll, the majority of respondents expressed a clear desire for a balanced budget rather than more tax cuts, Cheney spoke of the Bush administration's desire to push on with a new round of business tax cuts, and said that any effort on the part of the Democrats to slow down or reverse the tax cuts already enacted would be strenuously resisted.
'I can tell you right now that it's not going to happen on our watch,' he stated.
