US Firm Sets Up European HQ In Ireland

In spite of intense inflationary pressure and signs that the Irish economy is slowing down, the Irish Republic's attraction for foreign firms, not least for its appealing tax regime, appears to be continuing unabated. The latest firm to make its European headquarters in Ireland is California-based Salesforce.com, which has expressly cited tax reasons for selecting Ireland.

Salesforce.com, which delivers enterprise applications online and is one of the biggest players in the pay-as-you-use software market, will create around 50 jobs in Ireland when it sets up shop in Enniskerry, County Wicklow.

In an interview with Irish news service ElectricNews.net, Fergus Gloster, Vice President of Marketing at Salesforce.com Europe, explained that there were a few reasons why Salesforce chose Ireland as the location for its European headquarters, highlighting its favourable corporate tax rates as a major factor.

Mr Gloster said: 'Ireland is also perceived as a good place for high technology firms, and it is closer in proximity to the US than the rest of Europe. Also the fact that it is an English-speaking European country makes it very attractive to US multi-nationals'.
