US Corporation Opens Regional Sales Office in Dubai

ITXC Corp, a US-based provider of worldwide Internet voice services, has chosen Dubai as the location for a regional sales office in order to meet the growing demand from Middle East telecom providers for voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) services.

Served by just 12.2 million main telephone lines in 1990, the Middle East region grew to over 32 million lines by the beginning of 2000, according to statistics from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). This increase is in part due to increased competition in the region. The ITU stated: 'Already many of the countries in the region have either fully or partially privatized the incumbent operator, and subscribers now have a choice of operators for at least some services in most of the Middle East.'

Tom Evslin, Chairman and CEO of ITXC, commented: 'We've opened a Dubai office because carriers in the Middle East are beginning to recognize the importance of voice on the Internet. Our presence there, combined with the experience and knowledge of Khaled Zeidan [ITXC's Sales Director for the Middle East who will manage the Dubai office], will enable us to further extend the market lead we've earned in other parts of the world.'
