US Company Genuity Connects Irish ISP To Global Internet Backbone

Genuity Inc, a US-based Internet infrastructure provider, last week announced an agreement to provide high-speed Internet access and managed connectivity to its global Internet network to Internet Ireland, a leading internet service provider, Web enabler and network consultancy company. As a result, Internet Ireland is now connected to Genuity's global network infrastructure through Genuity's Point of Presence (PoP) at City West Business Park in Dublin.

Genuity said in a statement: 'Internet Ireland required a global transit leader that could provide international bandwidth along with future options to use hosting facilities in London and New York. Genuity recommended its International ISP Direct Connection Service (IISP Direct), a wholesale dedicated access service that offers various connection types to fully support current and future growth expectations. Internet Ireland was supplied with Fractional E3 connectivity (34 Megabits), a flexible bandwidth option with a usage-based pricing structure.'

Paul Slattery, sales manager for Genuity in Ireland, said: 'By extending our global network into Ireland, Genuity offers national ISPs like Internet Ireland cost effective and flexible access, unsurpassed levels of support, and the industry's strongest Service Level Agreement (SLA).'

Internet Ireland is jointly owned by Independent News & Media PLC and PHL (now trading as Chorus). Its managing director, Barry Breslin, commented: 'Genuity proved itself to be the most attractive global transit provider in the Irish marketplace because of the diversity of its network, an economical pricing structure and its speed to install. Our connection went live a month ahead of schedule.'

He added: 'With value-add managed services becoming the key differentials in the extremely competitive IP marketplace, we will look at future opportunities to add value to Genuity's portfolio of managed Internet Services. Our relationship with Genuity and the roll-out of the national Chorus wireless broadband network in Ireland has given us a very strong positioning in the Irish marketplace.'
