Officials at the US Embassy in Mauritius said that an American Chamber of Commerce office would be opened next week in Port Louis, the capital. The aim is to facilitate trade and investment between the United States and Mauritius.
According to a press release issued by the US mission in Port-Louis, 'all individuals and companies interested in doing business with the United States, will be eligible to become members of the Chamber'.
The Chamber would serve as an interest group to promote bilateral trade and investment and will act as a regional hub for US linkages. The Chamber will also act as a clearing house to offer incentives to American companies looking at investing or doing business with other countries.
"Membership in the Chamber will make local companies more attractive to American firms looking for partners, distributors and agents," the officials added.
The Chamber would offer regular news updates, access to the Embassy's resource centre, assistance in contacting US companies and organising trade missions, meetings for members with official visitors on trade and investment matters, as well as invitations to Embassy events with commercial themes.
