Reporting earlier this week, the Wall Street Jounal revealed that the Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) has called on the World Trade Organisation to take action against the Chinese authorities over a perceived lack of action on combating piracy.
Despite several assurances from the government in Beijing that action is being taken to clamp down on copyright infringement, the US has asked the WTO to request details of the enforcement measures being imposed.
In a recent interview, US Trade Representative Rob Portman explained that the move was designed to "put the Chinese on notice that we're serious".
The call for WTO action is expected to secure the support of Japan and Switzerland.
