The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) has announced that US Airways has begun offering a weekly service between Boston Logan International Airport and the Grand Cayman Islands.
“Logan passengers can once again fly non-stop to the Grand Cayman Islands and avoid the hassles of connecting at a hub,” stated Massport’s Director of Aviation Edward C. Freni.
Service to the Grand Cayman Islands was available from Logan until last spring when Cayman Airways ended the service, but US Airways has decided to serve the route with Airbus A319 aircraft on a once-per-week frequency schedule, flying every Saturday.
“We’re very excited to have US Airways resume a route that has proven to be popular with leisure travelers heading to the warmth and relaxation of the Caribbean,” added Freni.
“Demand for Boston is strong and this service will make getting to the Cayman Islands easier and more convenient for New England travelers,” observed Judith Akerman, District Marketing Manager for the Cayman Islands, continuing: “We’re very excited that non-stop service has returned to Boston.”
The Grand Cayman Islands are located just 480 miles south of Miami in the western Caribbean, and consist of three islands; Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac, and Little Cayman.
Boston Logan serves as the gateway to the six-state New England region, with a population of over 14 million, and offers nonstop service to 73 domestic and 31 international destinations.
Boston Logan has recently undergone a USD4.4 billion modernization program, including new terminals, parking facilities, roadways and airport concessions. In 2006 the airport handled nearly 28 million passengers.
