Deputy Assistant US Trade Representative, Charles Freeman, last week revealed that the United States is considering taking legal action against China over a semiconductor tax rebate program which, the USTR argues, discriminates against foreign suppliers.
Speaking on Thursday, the US Trade official revealed that the department was "actively preparing a case" to be taken to the World Trade Organisation, if agreement cannot be reached with the Chinese authorities in the next few months.
However, he added that:
"I think we're going to give it one last shot bilaterally before going to dispute settlement."
