28 December 2007

US Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez, United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Under Secretary Jon Dudas, and Deputy Under Secretary Margaret Peterlin met with intellectual property attachés at the USPTO Global Intellectual Property Academy earlier this month, it has been announced.

Their meeting was part of a week-long consultation on helping US IP owners to obtain and enforce their IP rights around the world.

The IP attachés serve in seven countries, assisting US businesses in anti-counterfeiting and anti-piracy strategies, and leading IP protection and enforcement training for foreign officials. They are part of a partnership between the USPTO and the Commercial Service.

Among those in attendance at the recent meeting with the Commerce Secretary were IP attachés: Jennifer Ness, Thailand; David Morfesi (USTR Detailee, Mission Geneva); Tracy Perrelli, Russia; Dominic Keating, India; senior IP attaché Mark Cohen, China; Dorian Mazurkevich, Brazil; Minna Moezie, Egypt; and Todd Thurwatcher, China.
