HM Treasury this week announced the launch of two new publications produced by a number of influential government advisors on financial management.
The reports are entitled 'Doing the Business: Embedding Financial Management Skills in Government' and 'Managing Performance in the Public Sector - an external perspective'.
Sir Gus O'Donnell, Cabinet Secretary and Nick Macpherson, HM Treasury's Permanent Secretary have endorsed both publications, and agree that improving performance and financial management is an important part of the current public sector reform, and is vital in enhancing the delivery of cost-effective public services.
Commenting on the publication, Dame Mary Keegan, Head of Government Finance Profession, explained that: "We believe that the advice in these reports may be of considerable assistance to departments and their delivery bodies throughout the wider public sector."
She added:
"We are grateful to the members of the many professional advisory firms and bodies who gave their time to work with us and that the publications complement the recent Whitehall Capability Reviews and existing external assessments made of local government, health and police."
