UK Tax Advisors Urged To Email Hartnett

09 July 2007

UK tax professionals are being encouraged to email questions for Dave Hartnett, HMRC Director-General (Business), as part of the tax department's recent initiatives to engage with tax advisers.

HMRC announced last week that questions will be put to Hartnett in an interview to be featured in the Department's next set of podcasts in early August.

In April, HMRC launched podcasts to explore new ways to communicate with key audiences. Dave Hartnett's podcast will answer some of the profession's most frequently-asked questions about 'Fresh Start'.

The new podcasting initiative aims to make information available to more taxpayers via their iPods and MP3 players.

Two podcasts were put online by the UK tax authority initially, covering topical issues relating to the tax profession and the completion of Annual Returns by employers.

HMRC is one of the first Government departments to launch podcasts, designed to make information on some of the most wide-ranging issues simple and accessible. The podcasts are between three and four minutes' duration, offering advice, support and helpful hints in an accessible style.

"The launch of podcasts have demonstrated there's a real appetite for the chance to hear directly from some of the UK's most senior tax practitioners," explained Anne Shevas, Acting Director of Communications & Marketing at HMRC.

"Working Together is an ongoing discussion between business and HMRC. The next set of podcasts aim to be more interactive, so agents can ask about emerging issues - and hear straight from the top."

Agents can email their questions to: jonathan.kinsella@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk.
