UK Patent Office To Boost Intellectual Property Awareness Amongst SMEs

08 January 2004

Following the recent release of a report by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) which drew attention to the low use of intellectual property as a development tool within the small business sector, the UK's Patent Office announced that it will be launching several new initiatives designed to raise awareness of IP issues in the SME (small and medium-sized enterprise) sector.

In addition to offering free IP advice from June, the Patent Office, in conjunction with patent and trade mark professionals throughout the UK, will launch a coordinated programme of visits to SMEs in order to deliver on-site IP guidance.

A new training programme for business advisers, designed to improve their understanding of IP matters, will also be launched as part of the awareness-raising initiative.
