Releasing its 2004-05 'Facts and Figures' booklet at the weekend, the UK Patent Office revealed that the number of patents granted in 2004 showed an 8% increase on the previous year, at 10,541.
The technology sector was granted the most patents, according to the Patent Office, securing seven of the top ten positions.
The top ten patentees, according to the figures released at the weekend, were: Hewlett Packard (with 294 patents), Visteon Global Technologies (with 247 patents), NEC (with 234 patents), Schlumberger (with 200 patents), IBM (with 169 patents), Samsung (with 166 patents), Ford (with 159 patents), Ericsson (with 132 patents), Motorola (with 127 patents) and Intel (with 107 patents).
