Speaking in the House of Lords on Monday, UK Lord Chancellor, Lord Falconer unveiled plans for the creation of the Supreme Court first announced last year.
Under the terms of the proposals, the court would initially be composed of the existing Law Lords.
New Justices of the Supreme Court would be selected by a new Supreme Court appointments commission, with between two and five candidates going before the Minister for Constitutional Affairs to be approved.
Separately, Lord Falconer rejected suggestions that he is rushing the process of reform to the UK justice system, revealing that:
"I came up with precisely the opposite conclusion from the select committee."
