According to a Legal Week report, two high profile conflict of interest cases involving leading UK law firms are drawing to a close.
Citing Law Society insiders, the news service revealed that the investigation into Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer over its role as advising Philip Green on his takeover bid for Marks & Spencer despite having previously advised the high street retailer, and the probe into Allen & Overy's alleged conflict during the bidding war for Safeway in 2003 are likely to go before the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal in the near future.
Although both investigations have been ongoing for more than a year, the Freshfields conflict was brought to the fore again this week when Barry O'Brien, who headed the team which worked with Mr Green before the firm was forced by the High Court to step down as his advisor, withdrew from the City law firm's senior partner election.
