by Jason Gorringe, Tax-News.com, London

22 March 2007

Jersey businesses will be offered guidance on the most important corporate management issues faced by companies in the modern economy in a lecture to be given at the Hotel de France tomorrow by Lord Justice Chadwick.

Lord Justice Chadwick, who is one of the most eminent speakers on appropriate trust and corporate decision making, will focus on a topic considered to be of pivotal importance to Jersey’s Finance Industry in his address on Friday.

Currently Lord Justice of the English Court of Appeal and a former Member of the Jersey Court of Appeal, Lord Justice Chadwick will give the lecture during a brief visit to Jersey. The lecture will be entitled ‘Keeping Control Offshore – Some Thoughts on the Administration of Non-Resident Companies’.

His address will deal with good corporate governance, central management and control issues and is certain to be of interest to many of Jersey’s business practitioners, particularly given recent developments to enhance the appeal of Jersey companies.

Beverley Le Cuirot, Director of Marketing, Jersey Finance, stated that:

“To have a speaker of such eminence is a great honour and an opportunity not to be missed. This key topic is certain to be of interest and relevance to all sections of the Island’s Finance Industry and, with more than 200 attendees already signed up, the lecture is proving to be an incredibly popular event.”

Lord Justice Chadwick was originally called to the Bar in 1966, practising primarily in Chancery and Company matters. He was standing Counsel to the Department of Trade from 1974 to 1980, and took Silk in 1980. Having served as a Judge of the Courts of Appeal for Jersey and Guernsey from 1986 to 1993, he became a Judge of the High Court, Chancery Division. He has been a Member of the English Court of Appeal since 1997.
