A new guide setting out the tax incentives for business to give to charitable causes has been launched by Tessa Jowell, Minister for the Cabinet Office, on behalf of HM Treasury, the Office of the Third Sector, and HM Revenue and Customs.
“A Guide to Giving for Business” sets out in a single guide a comprehensive document listing the tax incentives for businesses to give.
The guide states that the private sector can contribute to the aims and objectives of charities in different ways, such as giving money, donating shares or equipment, or working in partnership with a third sector organization through employee volunteering or secondments.
Jowell commented: “The benefits of partnerships between the charitable and private sectors are enormous. Not simply through raising money for charities and causes, but through the sharing of knowledge and the development of staff."
Mike Kelly, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at KPMG, the professional services firm consulted in the creation of the guide, added: “This guide will be as useful to the third sector as to business. The booklet brings together a comprehensive range of incentives for businesses to increase their commitment to communities."
Kelly continued: “Working with the third sector is a real ‘win-win-win’ situation. Charities benefit from the skills and resources as well as the cash, businesses benefit from the staff development that takes place, and members of staff can find it hugely motivational to be able to support their communities."
