The UK's Culture Secretary, Andy Burnham, has revealed that he is working with governments in the US and Europe to conclude an international strategy which will tackle digital media piracy.
The plan - which was unveiled by the Secretary on the eve of February 25 at a parliamentary reception - will harness the combined force of the two governments to take a much tougher stance on illegal internet downloads.
According to Mr Burnham, if the plan is approved then it could successfully reduce illegal online activities by up to 80%.
However, the Secretary went on to remark that the success of the move hinges largely on the co-operation of the music industry and Internet Service Providers, who will play a crucial role in the orchestration of the act.
Burnham revealed that he intends to work with the industry on the matter over the coming months, and hopes to be able to reveal an agreed strategy at the UK government's oddly-titled Creative & Business International Network conference, in October.
