UK Businesses Finding Compliance With IT Laws Hard

A survey of IT managers and company directors recently conducted by internet services and solutions provider, Star Internet has revealed that many UK businesses are still finding it difficult to keep pace with new domestic and European IT laws.

Although 84% of those polled revealed that their understanding of the Data Protection Act was "fair to good", 40% felt that they have a poor understanding of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act, with a similar number suggesting that their grasp of the EU Privacy and Electronic Communications Act is equally tenuous.

83% of respondents admitted to a lack of knowledge regarding the requirements of US legislation such as Sarbanes Oxley.

In addition, more than a third of those questioned revealed that their firm does not have in place basic compliance requirements such as internet usage policies and data storage facilities.
