A UK-based investment management firm has established its Asian headquarters in Hong Kong. According to the Hong Kong government, the decision of Surrey-based Forsyth Partners Ltd to set up shop in the SAR endorses the territory's role as a fund management hub in Asia.

Internationally, the Forsyth group operates through Forsyth Investments International Ltd, based in Jersey. This company has an investment management license and is regulated by the Jersey authorities. Of the move into the Hong Kong market, founder and Managing Director of Forsyth Partners, Paul Forsyth, said in a statement: 'We are tapping Hong Kong as a fund management hub that offers many benefits including an excellent business environment, a strategic location and sound financial structure.' He added: 'We have made Hong Kong our regional headquarters to fan out to the rest of Asia. There are enormous opportunities for us in Mainland China, upon China's accession to the World Trade Organisation.'

Simon Galpin, Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion at Invest Hong Kong, the government agency charged with attracting foreign investment to the SAR, commented: 'Hong Kong is the home to a large number of international fund houses and institutional investors. We welcome Forsyth to the dynamic business world here. Forsyth's experience and expertise in qualitative fund research is not only important to its success, but also will bring along new skills and approach to the investment fund industry in Hong Kong. Forsyth's presence here will definitely add to the strength of Hong Kong as a fund management hub in Asia.'

Forsyth, which is currently also establishing an office in Dubai, provides research-driven qualitative analysis and risk ratings on investment funds and fund managers. Its client list extends to over 400 organisations. Forsyth says that unlike data services such as S&P Micropal and Reuters Lipper, it looks beyond historical events and statistics and is "predictive".
