Speaking earlier this month at the annual International Students Committee (ISC) conference at St Gallen University, group CEO of UBS, Peter Wuffli called for society to give businesses a chance to earn back respect following recent international corporate governance scandals.
Condemning the "almost cyclical abuse of power by business leaders", Mr Wuffli nevertheless suggested that the pendulum had swung too far, and that new regulations and obligations being imposed on the national and international business communities risked "going too far" and "crushing" companies.
He went on to suggest that the time was right to "give corporations the chance to earn back the trust of society".
