Speaking to a World Trade Organisation delegation last week, Minister of Economy and Planning for the United Arab Emirates, Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi revealed that the UAE is currently reviewing its economic and commercial laws, in order to bring the region into line with domestic and international developments.
According to reports in the regional media, she told the WTO team, led by the head of the Organisation's Trade Policy Review, Clement Boonekemp that:
"(A) review of the UAE commercial policy is necessary at this critical juncture of economic and trade development in light of new factors of change in the domestic front."
Shaikha Lubna spoke regarding the free trade agreements currently being put in place with a number of countries, which she suggested will help the UAE to integrate with the global economy, and stressed the United Arab Emirates' commitment to its WTO obligations.
