Talks on a free trade agreement between the United Arab Emirates and Australia are set to begin today, according to the UAE's Minister of Economy and Planning, Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi.
Speaking on Monday, Shaikha Lubna, who is heading the UAE delegation, suggested that:
"Current cooperation between the UAE and Australia will open wide economic spheres before the two countries, and create new tributaries for the national economy."
She went on to reveal that the five days of talks which commence today are merely intended to give each side an idea of the scope of the other's economy, and to discuss issues relating to trade in commodities and services, and that no firm promises will be made during the preliminary talks.
According to Gulf News, in addition to Shaikha Lubna, the UAE delegation will comprise Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansouri, the country's Communications Minister, more than 50 experts and officials from various government departments, and representatives from the private sector.
