Two men have been executed in China and four others have been sentenced to death as punishment for their part in a US$3.8 billion tax scandal in which they forged rebate VAT invoices. Three more people have been given life imprisonment.
This is the latest in a series of court cases held in China's High Court in the city of Shantou to try all the defendants involved in the biggest tax scam the country has ever uncovered. To date the Court has sentenced 19 people in total to death and dished out 30 life imprisonment terms.
