Two leading Channel Islands' law firms, Carey Langlois and Olsens, announced yesterday that they are to merge. Called Carey Olsen, the new firm will be the largest in the Channel Islands with nearly one hundred and twenty lawyers including twenty-five partners based in offices in Jersey, Guernsey and London.
Both Olsens and Carey Langlois have achieved dynamic growth in recent years having attracted leading lawyers from rival firms, the United Kingdom and internationally. Whilst both firms provide a full range of legal services, each is particularly well respected in the areas of contentious and non-contentious corporate and trust work.
Jason Morgan of Olsens in Guernsey, said of the merger, "We fit well together. Our cultures, philosophy and strategic thinking are strikingly similar and our core practice areas are highly complementary. The merger will be good for both firms, for our clients and for our staff."
John Greenfield, Managing Partner of Carey Langlois, said, "An alliance of this scale is unprecedented in the Channel Islands. Carey Olsen will have an unrivalled breadth of expertise spanning all areas of legal practice in Jersey and Guernsey."
Anthony Olsen, Senior Partner of Olsens in Jersey described his vision of Carey Olsen as, "Expert, motivated and totally client focused".
Carey Langlois, founded in Guernsey in 1898, is far more venerable than Olsens, which dates only from 1981. Later, Olsens merged with Guernsey law firm Ferbrache Morgan becoming Olsen Ferbrache Morgan. In 2002 Carey Langlois established a London office.
