Two-Thirds Of Hong Kong Firms Plan Recruitment Drive

by Mary Swire, Tax-News.com, Hong Kong

Almost two-thirds of companies based in Hong Kong are planning to hire new staff in the coming year, with firms in the financial services, logistics and manufacturing sectors likely to be the most active recruiters.

This is the conclusion of a survey conducted by executive search firm MRI Worldwide, which polled over 600 multinational firms, 230 of which were located in Hong Kong, between June and September 2004.

The survey found that 84% of Hong Kong firms have recruited new staff in the past six months, and that 63% of all new employees hired in this time were needed to fill existing positions, whilst the remainder were hired to fill new posts.

However, looking to the future, only firms based in Shanghai were expected to hire at a faster rate than Hong-Kong based offices according to MRI, which also surveyed companies based in Beijing, Guangzhou, South Korea and Taiwan.

Employees with experience in sales, sales support, banking and finance and business development are the most sought after new recruits, the survey revealed, whilst accounting, marketing and public relations staff have also been actively recruited in the last six months.
