The government of the Turks & Caicos Islands has enlisted the help of Kairi Consultants in the drafting of its 10-year National Development Plan, which aims to improve the life of islanders through a series of economic and social reforms.
Kairi is an international consultancy firm founded in 1990. It is wholly owned by Caribbean nationals and operates from its headquarters in Tunapuna, Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and has an office in South Africa. Its function is to provide technical assistance to private and public entities in the developing world.
The consultancy firm has been called in to provide the intellectual leadership for the project, and will draft the majority of the plan itself. However, the plan will also receive major input from island residents through a Steering Committee, established by the Executive Council in June this year, upon which 18 citizens of note will sit and act as a Board of Directors.
In addition, several sub-sectors to this main board will be delegated to explore various aspects of the Turks & Caicos' economic and social system and suggest specific policies in areas of importance, such as taxation, investment incentives, tourism, agriculture, education, labour relations, gaming, local governance, communications, culture and national identity.
The planning stage will be launched by Chief Minister Michael Misick on October 27. It is expected that the first phase will take nine months to complete.
