Turkey has announced that it is to change alcohol taxation and bring it in line with European Union regulations. The new law was published in Turkey’s official gazette on April 14.
Under the new legislation, beer and wine will be taxed according to alcohol concentration while distilled alcohol will be taxed according to a fixed rate.
Tax on a litre of raki, the national spirit, will be subject to a marginal increase to TRY36 (USD22) from TRY35.84 per litre, while levies on vodka and gin will be lowered to TRY40 (USD24.4) from TRY41.4 per litre.
