The 17th Algerian-Tunisian Cooperation Joint Committee meeting was concluded last Thursday with the signing of eight agreements, memoranda of understanding and executive programmes, including a new trade agreement.
The preferential trade agreement, which includes the implementation of a commercial free trade zone between the two parties, will open the gateway for bilateral investments, and this is expected to grow substantially from the USD500m traded in 2008.
The agreement will mean that 2,000 products will gain exemption from customs levies and taxation. It is also hoped that the move will help tackle smuggling.
