Hong Kong's total goods exports grew 84.6% from $1.456 trillion in 1997 to $2.688 trillion last year, according to the Hong Kong Monthly Digest of Statistics' April issue.
Published by the Census & Statistics Department on Monday, the document revealed that the value of Hong Kong's goods imports has grown from $1.615 trillion to $2.868 trillion in the past decade.
During the period in question, the Mainland and Japan were the two main suppliers of Hong Kong's imports.
The value of imports from the Mainland grew from $608.4 billion to $1.33 trillion. In 2007, imports from the Mainland took up 46.4% of the value of Hong Kong's imports, compared to the 37.7% in 1997, the Digest revealed.
Meanwhile, the value of imports from Japan rose from $221.6 billion to $287.3 billion. In 2007, imports from Japan took up 10% of the value of Hong Kong's imports, compared to 13.7% in 1997.
Other major suppliers of Hong Kong's imports were Taiwan, Singapore and the US. In 2007 they comprised 7.2%, 6.8% and 4.8% of the value of Hong Kong's imports.
