Thailand's Revenue Department has launched a raft of new high-tech payment options, according to The Nation news service.
It emerged this week that following registration via the tax agency's website, Thai taxpayers will be able to make income tax payments over the internet, by using an ATM machine, or at post offices across the country.
Sirote Swasdipanich, senior adviser to the tax department, told The Nation that if the current initiatives prove successful, Revenue may eventually consider offering filing options via mobile phones and at convenience stores:
'We will wait for feedback from our customers with our online, ATM and CA Post services before we expand,' he explained.
According to the national news service, however, the Revenue Department's high-tech initiative does not work both ways:
'Despite all the talk about 'e-payments', tax refunds will still be processed the old, slow way: taking a paper refund claim to the Revenue Department office, joining the queue and waiting half an hour or more for payment,' it reported on Monday.
