26 January 2009

The Thai Prime Minister, Abhisit Vejjajiva, will push ahead with plans to introduce new land and inheritance taxes, it has emerged.

The Prime Minister announced his intention to go ahead with the plans despite the possibility of backlash, explaining that he intends to introduce both the taxes at the same time as part of ongoing tax reforms.

The intention is to introduce more progressive rates of tax for individuals who own large properties, particularly those who own houses on valuable plots of land or who rarely use the property in question.
