Last week's Bermuda budget speech for 2000/2001 contained proposals
for higher taxes that have seriously concerned business leaders,
reports the Bermuda Royal Gazette.
Under the headline 'Business leaders say tax hikes will hurt' the paper says the island's business sector fears that proposed payroll tax increases may start to drive away offshore enterprises. At the same time the Chamber of Commerce called for more funding for the island's e-commerce initiative.
